[A big thing to most] Wearing Lolita to school.

I, personally, have yet to wear a Lolita outfit to school yet (but I do plan on once I get my first one for my birthday.) But, we all know that wearing a lolita outfit to school (moreso high school, I'd say) is a big step and you need to have an extreme amount of confidence. Because we all know that we will stick out, we will be looked at funny, we will be asked many questions, and we might even be made fun of. But its best to keep cool in such situations and answer questions to your best ability, and smile at those who give you funny looks. ~.^ Being made fun of is always a tough blow to deal with but being the mature person that you know you are, you shouldn't let such comments even touch you. Being strong and not letting a comment get to you is your best bet. You always have to remember that people who try to bring others down have their own personal problems that they can't deal with so they make fun of others to feel better about themselves.

I brought my Gothic & Lolita Bible to school today for 'show and tell' (Yeah 11th grade and my criminal justice teacher tells us to do show and tell xD;.) But a couple kids who looked at it were like, "Do people in Japan actually wear this stuff? That's weird. What freaks." And stuff like that. So I simply said, "Well I bet they look at our fashion and go, 'Oh how dull.' You just believe its weird because its not what you see here in the US being advertised by a top brand. I bet if Abercrombie started selling clothing like this everyone would jump on the bandwagon because its the new in thing." So the kid who was making those comments then stopped. Another boy said he just didn't understand the culture behind it and I explained it to him to the best of my ability and once he had an understanding, he said he had respect for it and said he respects people's decisions to wear whatever they want and if I came to school wearing lolita he said he wouldn't really say anything but just have respect for me for standing out and wearing what I like and living how I want too. So I recieved many mixed reactions from people in my classes, one kid said he wanted to go to Japan and buy some clothes, some girl said the parasols looked like Little Bo Peep and she thought it was dumb.

But there's just a lot of reactions that you can recieve, you just have to remember to take them all in with grace and understanding~ and not let the bad one's get you down. ♥

I wore casual lolita to school one day and I got many compliments (and stares lol) but I really didn't recive any neggative comments. I think it was because I had on my 3'' platforms. LOL STOMPIN' TIME!

But I think I had the confidence to wear it because in the previous year I had shown up to school in decora a few times which took real guts!

It's best to laugh at the people who laugh at you. They may say "HEY WTF IZ SHE WEARIN???" and I'll be thinking "HEY WTF IZ YEW WEARIN LOOKIN LEIK A HO!" Or be like my friend who came in full on lolita (for a report) and turn around and say cheerfully "Hello!" and smile. Gets them every time haha.

I agree. Being polite to people is often the best offense. Especially when you give them that certain innocent, confused, "Doesn't everyone dress like this?" look... oh yea, that's the best. ^_^

Because people get so bewildered by your response and get upset that you don't get all ticked off and in their face so they can go to their friends and say, "YA SO I GOT DIS CHICK IN WEIRDDDD CLTOHZ ALL P/OED LOLOL I'M SO BADARSE!!!! HXC!"

I got really good at giving answers with a straight face in high school. I died my hair BRIGHT neon yellow once and people kept asking if I did it with a highlighter. The best though was one girl came up to me, obviously concerned and asked, "So did you mean to do that?" My response?

"No... I just... woke up one morning and it was like this. I thought it would just wash out, but it didn't. I have no idea what happened..."

She fell for it hook line and sinker. "Omigosh, I am soo sorry. I had no idea." She actually went back and told her friends my sob story. XD

My mom is really cool about stuff like that. She let me dye my hair, pierce my ears a total of 4 times, and actually suggested that I get my belly button pierced. ^_^ Somehow though, she thinks my loli stuff is weird.

That's hilarious.

I used to come to school dressed as all kinds of things, in highschool. It was the hats that got people to leave me alone, I'm pretty sure. When someone has a cool hat, you don't mess with them.

I also had giant tent pants that could house ten families on a camping trip. Those were so fun, but when it rained, they were so heavy from dragging on the ground. And my arms were completely covered in jewelry. Lolita is tame, compared to what I have worn in the past. ^__^;;

For me too, but I went to Catholic school so we all had uniforms at school. I was still the odd one out. I wore my share of weird things on my own time though and when I got into college. Now I'm a very tame dresser because I'm old. (24 ^_^)

Ah, that makes sense. I had uniforms in middle school, and couldn't stand it, for various reasons.

I'm only 21, but I feel old, when I tell people my age, 'cause I look younger.

People always tell me I look 17. XD Then they're even doubly shocked when they find out I'm married.

I just can't imagine you looking anything other than exactly like your current icon. Seriously. XD

I think I really confused people when I started wearling Lolita, because I was wearing mostly androgynous or masculine clothing before then, with occasional gypsy skirts, but I had attempted to get rid of all my feminine clothing.

Hah. I have more lace and ruffles than a spoiled little girl.

Hahaha! I wish! She's so cute. XD My husband says that she looks like me though so I'll go with it. I actually look like this if you were curious.

I slowly worked my way in so I don't think people were too shocked. And my hubby loves it so that's what really matters. ^_^

You have such beautiful, long hair, and a sweet smile.

I always grimace unless I work really hard not to. XD I have one picture of me, that I took in the dorm bathroom in December, after I had finally added the ruffle to the bottom of a dress.

My best friend loves when I wear Lolita, so that's really encouraging, and helps me to ignore what other people might think. It actually helps me to giggle silenty, when I get the 'wtf r u wearin?' stares, because people's faces are so hilarious.

That's a great story, and a great come back. ^_^ Though if Abercrombie starts selling what they think is loli I might just have to give it up myself. XD

I think that your classmates sound very mature. Much more so than my own when I was in high school. I don't think they would have been so understanding, open to explanation, and respectful of differences.

Sometimes I feel like I should walk around with pamphlets to hand out instead of trying to explain things to people. ^_^

A friend of mine once tried to convince me that American Eagle and Abercrombie were selling lolita items 'a while back.' She seriously thought they were, I was about to smash her head into the wall but I just smiled and nodded while squeezing my other friend's arm. XD;

Well, the one who gave such a mature response was a senior and he's a pretty...out there himself. XD; But he's really cool all and all.

I wore loli to school once in grade 10 and once in grade 11, I'm now in grade 12 (haven't worn it yet this year).

I got many reactions too and my Japanese teacher (now this is weird) said I looked like Little House on the Prairie ;_________;

Helter Stupid.

I've worn lolita to school a couple times, but I always dress really weird (like today, I wore a nurse costume with one of those little caps and everything) so I don't get many comments...a few people asked "WHAT are you WEARING!?" and one guy who's autistic or something told me "M-m-my grandma told me t-t-those socks went out of st-t-t-yle when she was FIVE!"

Whenever I get negative comments, I just roll my eyes or say "WHY THANK YOU!!!" really earnestly. That shuts people up. :P

I think I remember you posting that boy's comment on EGL, and it made me start giggling, so my brother wanted to know what was so funny.

Was he serious, or doing it for attention?

Eh, if they give you the 'that's so stupid' remark ...just tell them it's not any stupider than wearing a long-ass chain, a shirt about five times too big that looks like they borrowed it from their Uncle "Big AL". Or any stupider than wearing a cowboy hat and Wranglers when there are no cows around... in the city.

But Ohhhhh... haven't you ever read those celebrity magazines and see the snap shots of your favorite star? She doesn't even cake on the make-up and walk around in those Ho clothes during the day. She wears jeans, duh. You're not going to a club.

But yeah, I always tell people straight out (no matter if I'm wearing Lolita or not) that they look no more ridiculous than I do. Cause it's usually the lemmings of the fashion world who are the first ones to call you out.

Sounds like you did a pretty good job answering people's negative reactions! :D I'm sooo glad I got into lolita in college where nobody cares, ahaha ^^; Highschool is just so WEIRD! It's almost strange how much people care when others are different. Anyway sounds like you handled it perfectly! Yay! ^^

College is really cool. :D Unfortunately, most of the people in my college are sort of preppy, but it's also a really big school so just really nobody cares if other people look funny. Yay! ^^ My friends are also all very tolerant of it, haha, they all have funny colored hair and/or piercings..

And the best thing about wearing lolita in college is that your professors usually don't really care what you wear to class. I've also shown up in pajamas, when I was sick, or lazy, and nobody blinked.

i've been wearing it ever since i found out about it - so about 4 years now. i am a senior in HS, but i wear it a lot, maybe once a week. the 1st times i wore it, well, yess ppl look. ppl look at my RH shoes and litterally say 'damn! look!' but no one has EVER said anything to my face. i heard some girls were talking about me behind my back, some ppl i don't know - i don't care. at my school, it isn't a problem. in fact, we don't really have any sort of problem :/ but then again, i have 1 friend, so i don't talk to many, which may be why no one says anything to me about it. they are too used to me~ but ppl LOVED me on halloween XD i got in the yearbook. i dressed in loli at school in my 'most unique' picture~

so i say - if you start early, ppl won't care by the time you are older XD but seriosly, just do it. i didn't even HAVE a full outfit before i started, just maybe a shirt that was inspired. now when i do have it, ppl are excited to see what it'll be~ so don't worry :) just go with your heart~

This is really cool.and brave of you. Iam thinking of dressing up for my graduation.I so totally agree with you. Iam brave for wearing loli fashion and going down the streets with them especially when u live in a weird town where everyone is preppy or gangster.XD.I hang out with goths and jap fans. My best friend understands this fashion and shes seen me wearing them. I dress normal to school but no one knows the true loli iam.Infact in school i may seem a normal punk kid with a dir en grey shirt,but the other side of me where's frills and pretty pink and white dresses.No one knows that about me except my best friends . I evetually am going to show my fellow studentmates the true meaning of beign yourself,of dressing like yourself and what suits you..not something for american eagle.Or something new that paris hilton is wearing,sometimes i feel a little sad and depressed cause some people really do make rude comments,but i allways smile and give them a response . Sometimes i ask myself , why?.But allways i end up beign happy and truely proud of myself,for beign myself and beign that lolita.Someday when iam free of all this american clones production state i can wear lolita everyday.
